US Embassy Celebrates America’s 234th Birthday
San Jose-July 2, 2010
“This is my first July 4th in Costa Rica, and my first opportunity to welcome you all here on behalf of President Obama to share this celebration of freedom with us, the 234th anniversary of U.S. independence,” stated Ambassador Anne S. Andrew in her opening remarks at the US Embassy’s official Fourth of July reception. During the reception, Ambassador Andrew took time to speak to representatives from nine U.S. companies who exhibited displays that demonstrated their contributions to corporate social responsibility and renewable energy.

The International Police (Interpol) Receive CARSI Equipment Donation
San Jose-June 22, 2010
In ongoing efforts to support local law enforcement officials and promote police professionalization, the US Embassy donated $31,000 in equipment to the International Police. The donation included a dozen laptop computers, four desktop computers, one color printer, one fax machine, a GPS system, five digital cameras, five video cameras, a telescope and tripod, two bicycles, two portable voice recorders and numerous other items.

Emmy Award-Winning Expert Talks Citizen Journalism and New
Media
Five time Emmy Award-winning Journalist and New Media Creative Producer,
Patricio Espinosa traveled to Costa Rica for a five-day program to discuss
trends in citizen journalism and share best practices on new media technologies.
Mr. Espinosa met with 300 Media Directors, Chiefs of Information,
journalists, web masters, communications students and government officials.
Mr. Espinosa gave a series of nine presentations in San Jose and in the
interior of the country, advising participants about new media tools to help
professionals improve their media strategies and capitalize on the various
resources available to help them disseminate their message to a broad1er
audience.

Trafficking in Persons Report 2010

Secretary Clinton (June 14, 2010): "The 10th annual Trafficking in Persons Report outlines the continuing challenges across the globe, including in the United States. The Report, for the first time, includes a ranking of the United States based on the same standards to which we hold other countries. The United States takes its first-ever ranking not as a reprieve but as a responsibility to strengthen global efforts against modern slavery, including those within America. This human rights abuse is universal, and no one should claim immunity from its reach or from the responsibility to confront it."
