REQUIREMENTS FOR
IMPORTATION / EXPORTATION
OF CATS & DOGS:






TO BRING YOUR DOG OR CAT INTO COSTA RICA

        You will first need a Certificate of Good Health issued by your Veterinarian in the United States.

        Please fax this Certificate to the Ministry of Health in Costa Rica, Zoonosis Department,
            Fax No. (506) 2255-2148

        When proved, they will fax you the authorization for the animal to travel to Costa Rica.

         This should be done no less than 30 days before traveling
 
 

TO TAKE YOUR DOG OR CAT FROM COSTA RICA BACK TO THE UNITED STATES.

        You will need a Certificate from your Veterinarian in Costa Rica and the authorization issued
            by the Ministry of Health.

        The Ministry is located behind the San Juan de Dios Hospital, Paseo Colón, downtown San José
            telephone number  2223-0333 ext. 331.

        You will need to take with you sixteen colones in Timbres Fiscales, plus one Archivo Nacional
            and two Forenses, available at the Post Office or in bookstores.

          It takes aproximately two working days for them to issue your authorization .

         This should be done no less than 30 days before traveling .
